Jane
KNIGHT
Jane Knight brings both a researcher's and practitioner's perspective to the
internationalization of higher education. Dr. Knight is currently a visiting
professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.
Formerly she was Head of International Affairs in the Office of the President
at Ryerson University. Prior work experiences with the Education Planning and
Policy Unit of UNESCO, Paris and with a development NGO in India, plus her involvement
in many Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) supported projects,
help bring international policy and developing country perspectives to the study
of international education.
Dr. Knight has produced many publications on the international dimension of
higher education . In Canada, she has prepared several national reports such
as «Progress and Promise: The 2000 AUCC Report on Internationalization
at Canadian Universities»; and for the Canadian Bureau for International
Education «A Time of Turmoil and Transformation for Internationalization»
1999 and « Taking the Pulse: Monitoring the Quality and Progress of Internationalization»
2001. On the international front, she has been involved with projects with the
IMHE/OECD resulting in two publications «Quality and Internationalization
in Higher Education» (1999) and «Internationalization of higher
education in Asia Pacific countries (1997). Jane Knight is a member of the Research
Advisory Committee of CBIE and the Editorial Board of 'Journal of Studies in
International Education'. She also serves as an evaluator/expert for the Internationalization
Quality Reviews of higher education institutions undertaken by the European
University Association in conjunction with IMHE and ACA. Her current report
for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) focuses on the impact
of trade liberalization on higher education policy, specifically the General
Agreement on Trades in Services (GATS).
